DBB Derek Kage & Tyler Fox The Candidate Chapter 8

Tyler came looking for a job. After everything Derek has put him through, he finally learns there was never a position to fill. No title waiting for him. No final test he needed to pass. The questions, the rules, even the countless opportunities to walk away were all leading him toward something much simpler. A choice.
For once, Tyler doesn’t need another explanation. The uncertainty that brought him here is gone, and in its place is a calm understanding of exactly what Derek has been waiting to see. Tyler wasn’t competing against the candidates who came before him. He only had to decide for himself that he wanted to stay.
Derek finally has his answer.
The evaluation is over. The distance between them disappears, and what follows feels less like another test than an acceptance of everything Tyler has already chosen. He came searching for a position. Instead, he found a place. And this time, when Derek tells him, “I’m glad you stayed. Welcome,” Tyler knows exactly what he means.
